September 2019. Coffs at Coffs While not the one plaguing NSW, a drought of sorts was broken when
Kempsey traveled to Coffs Harbour recently to regain ownership of a
table tennis trophy that has been hotly contested for close to 20 years
now...19 to be precise. Kempsey had not been able to match the Coffs
team for nine years but the hoodoo was broken when the Kempsey players,
albeit with some help from players outside the district due to locals
being injured or unavailable, were able to overcome the considerable skills of their opponents.
After a round of pre-lunch singles for the 12 players on each team, the
Kempsey team was leading 26 -22 in rubbers so there was considerable
focus by both teams in the post lunch doubles match up. As it transpired
the doubles results were shared evenly at 9 -9 making Kempsey overall
winners. The singles performances of Adi Vinaikosol, Jacob Kewley,
Steve Tarbox, Barbara Morley, John Mundy and Miho Ballard were a big
contribution to the lead and all players did enough in the doubles to
secure victory. Newcomer Marshall Higgins performed extremely well in
his first ever tournament and will be a valuable team member in future
encounters. Could we have won without Coffs players contributing or Rob
Galotti from Port helping out. The results page will help in the
analysis. Probably a big ask but it is immaterial now as we have the
trophy!
August 2019. Taree at Taree
Well Taree gave us a bit of a lesson in table tennis
but let's hope the luck is with Miho, Barbara and John as they compete
at the NSW COUNTRY TABLE TENNIS LEAGUE - NORTHERN REGION TEAMS
INVITATIONAL at Lismore. At Taree our number one side went down 8-4 in
rubbers while the second team suffered a 10-2 defeat. It is bound to be
of benefit playing opponents at a higher level...but sometimes the games
are over too fast! A few lessons learned. Thanks to Taree for hosting
us in such a welcoming fashion.
